Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In Pittsburgh, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across Pennsylvania run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 10:45 amβ9 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Choolaah at (412) 503-7797; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Its website is choolaah.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
Customers rate it 4.4 out of 5 on Google across 1,727 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded indian restaurants in Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is in Pennsylvania, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Pittsburgh follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

I used to love choolah, but this experience was very disappointing. The rice tasted like it was from the day before, and was clumped together into huge balls. Itβs also completely different than the last time I ordered. The veggie side of my bowl contained maybe one morsel of broccoli, zero cauliflower, and undercooked sweet potatoes. The naan was undercooked on top, and black on the bottom.

I had a very disappointing experience. The chicken portion was significantly smaller than what I have received on previous visits, and the chicken itself was burnt. What was even more concerning was finding a blue plastic pin in the food, which is a serious food safety issue. The quality and portion size did not meet expectations, and discovering a foreign object in my meal made the experience even worse. I hope management addresses these issues to improve food quality and customer safety.

I had a great experience at Choolaah Indian! The staff are all so friendly and helpful. Alistair helped walk us through the options and made the experience wonderful. I really enjoyed the ability to customize my own bowl. The ingredients are high quality and everything I had was really good! I really enjoyed my bowl as well as mango lassi and the pav bhaji. Itβs quick and efficient. The atmosphere inside is really nice and clean. Lots of seating as well both inside and outside. They also have lots of vegan options.

In our recent visit to Pittsburgh, we thought to try Choolaah and it was really nice. The ambience and staff were very welcoming. Particularly Carlos, took time to explain the menu and ordering details. We tried Naan wrap, Butter chicken bowl, Pav bhaji and mango lassi. We really enjoyed our meal and everything tasted fresh and delicious. We will definitely visit again soon to try other menu items.

Fast casual Indian food in East Liberty. Love that you can order ahead or on a kiosk. Food is flavorful and you can add as much heat as you'd like. Everything was very fresh and tasty. Def try the mango lassi when you're there!
